Information Sheet
Thank you for your interest in The Passmore Tuition Centre. The Centre was established some 10 years ago and has built up a reputation for providing high quality tuition.

The Passmore Centre rooms at 607 Highgate, Dunedin
Why get tutoring?
We are lucky in Dunedin with the quality of our schools. The reality is however that a teacher with 25 students in their class just can not provide the individual attention that makes so much difference in the learning process. Tuition addresses specific needs. It allows the student to develop their understanding and mastery of the subject area. It builds confidence and enjoyment in learning. Individual attention allows for instant feedback, guided repetition, and development of skills, all of which are essential for thorough learning.
What Year groups are catered for?
The Centre provides tuition to students from Year 7 to 13. (Form 1 to 7)
What subjects are available?
Mathematics and English are our most requested subjects but most school subjects are available.
What happens at a tutorial?
Tuition takes place in small groups. The average tutorial size is just 2 students. Tutorials are one hour long. Students do not work through a fixed programme but rather, tutors tailor the lesson to suit the individual needs and learning style of the particular student. Tutorials are linked to what is currently being studied at school. This is essential with NCEA internal assessment. As assessments approach increasing time is spent working examination papers and on examination technique.
For success we must build the student’s confidence and their enjoyment of the subject.
When do tutorials take place?
Tutorials run Monday to Thursday at 4.15, 5.15, 6.15, 7.15, and 8.15pm. Some other times may also be available to suit individual circumstances. When you enroll a mutually convenient time is chosen.
How often and for how long should a student come to tuition?
We recommend a regular weekly session. Students are not required to attend any particular number of weeks as this depends on what the goal of the tuition is.
What does it cost?
The cost of tuition is $39 per session. Payment is usually made in advance (term or half term).
What if a student can not attend an arranged tutorial?
When absent due to ill health or other commitments such as a school camp, it is often possible to arrange a replacement tutorial. We do not guarantee this but will try. The more notice you can give of an absence the more likely we can find a replacement time.
Who are the tutors?
The tutors are qualified and experienced teachers. Some are currently teaching in Dunedin schools while others are recently retired or on leave from teaching for family reasons.
